Settings of sound card in Microsoft Windows XP

Press key F3 or select in menu Configuration the item Audio Setting (viz. picture).

Here in the section Select Sound Card choose first item or select concrete sound card:

As input in section Select Record Input select the one from which you want to analyze the music proceeded. For example one from these following options:

Line In

 - In the case you need to analyze music from external source (ex. from mixer where you will probably use Jack cable (input to notebook) - CINCH (Master output from mixer - here can be also needed CINCH splitter)

Microphone

 - Analyse of music will be done using microphone. It is although easy choice without cables but analyse can not be on the high quality level and furthermore is capcured also the noise from surroundings.

Stereo Mix

 - If you need to make analyze on the same computer that is used like the source of music, select this choice - for ex. Stereo, Mono, Wave.

Sometimes can happen that no inputs of sound card can be found in the program but only Universal input. In this case it is necessary to select the recording input from the driver manufacturer of your sound card or in Windows Mixer (you can open it by click on the button Windows Mixer).

! Setting the record is always the same to all programs, so if you set the correct record for any other program Music Visualization will be also functional. You can verify the record function by use the utility Sound Recorder which is included in Microsoft Windows operating systems (run: Start > Programs (All programs) > Accessories > Sound Recorder).


Settings of sound card in Microsoft Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 a 10

Press key F3 or select in menu Configuration the item Audio Setting (viz. picture).

Here in the section Select Sound Card choose first item System Default Mixer (viz. picture).

As input in section Select Record Input select first item Universal input.

Run Windows Mixer by click on the button Windows Mixer.

Follow the instructions according to the selected source from which will be the analysis of music performed:

Line In

- In the case you need to analyze music from external source (ex. from mixer where you will probably use Jack cable (input to notebook) - CINCH (Master output from mixer - here can be also needed CINCH splitter)

Settings:

Open the tab Recordings. After connecting the cable to the computer the device appears as an active device (viz. picture). The microphone must be set as Default Device.

If is in the system more devices for recording, you will need to set up the Line In (rigth-click) as the Default device. Do not confuse it with the settings Default Communication Device.

After these steps restart the program DMX Music Visualization.

Microphone

 - Analyse of music will be done using microphone. It is although easy choice without cables but analyse can not be on the high quality level and furthermore is capcured also the noise from surroundings.

Settings:

Open the tab Recording. After connecting microphone to the computer, microphone will be displayed as active device (viz. picture). The microphone must be set as the Default device.

If is in the system more devices for recording, you will need to set up the Microphone (rigth-click) as the Default device. Do not confuse it with the settings Default Communication Device.

After these steps restart the program DMX Music Visualization.

 

Stereo Mix

- If you need to make analyze on the same computer that is used like the source of music, select this choice - for ex. Stereo, Mono, Wave.

Settings:

Open the tab Recordings.

In the area where the devices are displayed, right-click and select Show Disabled Devices.

Between displayed devices find Stereo Mix and with right-click set up it as Default Device.

After these steps restart the program DMX Music Visualization.

If you are not able to find mentioned Stereo Mix, it means that your sound card driver does not support this feature. In this case follow these alternatives:

A) Solutions by cable splitter

You will need:

Audio splitter – 2x Jack 3,5 mm stereo (female) → 1x Jack 3,5 mm (male) stereo

Audio cable - Jack 3,5 mm (male) stereo → Jack 3,5 mm (male) stereo

  • Audio splitter connect to the input (Line In) (mostly blue marking) or Microphone (Mic) (mostly pink marking) on your sound card.
  • Audio cable connect to one jack on the Audio splitter and his second end connect to the output (Line Out) (mostly green marking on your sound card.
  • To the last remaining free audio jack on the splitter connect headphones or speakers.

B) Solutions using additional software

Solutions described in the point A can be replaced virtually using Virtual Audio Cable software.

! Setting the record is always the same to all programs, so if you set the correct record for any other program Music Visualization will be also functional. You can verify the record function by use the utility Sound Recorder which is included in Microsoft Windows operating systems (run: Start > Programs (All programs) > Accessories > Sound Recorder).
