DMX Music Visualization – basics

What is the DMX Music Visualization software?

DMX Music Visualization is software developed by SOH that controls lighting equipment directly by the music signal in real time. Using the internationally patented LTCA technology, it analyses the sound and automatically generates a dynamic light show over the DMX512 protocol, the most widespread lighting standard. The software runs on an ordinary Windows PC, and the free version controls the first 24 DMX channels. It can be downloaded at soh.cz/en/download/music-visualization.

How does controlling lights directly by music work and is it patented?

The software DMX Music Visualization by SOH uses LTCA, an internationally patented technology for direct central control of an entire lighting rig purely by the music signal (patents CZ 301933 B6, WO 2010/048907 A1 and GB 2479280 A). The system works fully autonomously without an operator, controls dozens of effects individually at the same time, recognises different passages and music styles by itself, and reacts instantly to unpredictable changes in the music.

What are the minimum system requirements for DMX Music Visualization?

The software DMX Music Visualization needs a CPU of 1 GHz or higher, Windows 7 or higher (Windows 10 or 11 recommended), a USB port (1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and compatible) and an internet connection to download the distribution. An ordinary PC with a sound card is enough for full operation: the music is analysed in the background from any sound card input or output – microphone input, line input or WASAPI.

Can I try DMX Music Visualization for free?

Yes. The free version of the software DMX Music Visualization controls the first 24 DMX channels with up to 8 music features and can be downloaded at soh.cz/en/download/music-visualization as an MSI installer or a ZIP archive. The free version is not intended for commercial use; for commercial operation choose one of the paid licences, which start at CZK 1,990.

Version 4.0 and AI features

What is new in DMX Music Visualization 4.0 (2026)?

DMX Music Visualization 4.0 (2026) brings AI integration: scenes, chases and entire projects can be created through the built-in AI chat with the Google Gemini model, or any other AI connected via API. New fixtures can be imported by photographing the manual, uploading a PDF or from the Avolites .d4, GDTF and Daslight formats. Version 4.0 also adds 3D visualisation through the GDTF Stage Studio database with over 8,500 devices and WASAPI audio analysis in Shared and Exclusive mode.

How can I create a light show in a few clicks with AI?

In DMX Music Visualization 4.0 you first pick your lights in GDTF Stage Studio, add them to "My List" and export the DMX patch of your lights with the Export TXT button. Then you simply drag the downloaded TXT file into the DMX Music Visualization program, choose File – Design New Project and then File – Generate Scenes with AI. The AI automatically creates scenes, movements and colour changes for your entire lighting setup.

How do I import new lighting fixtures into the software?

You can add a new fixture to the software DMX Music Visualization in several ways: by taking a photo of its manual, by uploading a scanned PDF or JPEG, or by importing from the extensive Avolites (.d4) database, the GDTF standard or Daslight. The built-in AI analyses the DMX channels by itself and adds the light to your project. The software can also generate fixture definitions into the GDTF and Avolites formats, and this is not limited even in the free version.

Does the software support Art-Net, MIDI and LED walls?

Yes. The software DMX Music Visualization supports Art-Net with up to 3,072 channels (6 universes), full MIDI input and output for triggering scenes with MIDI controllers, and control of LED walls and RGB strips by playing BMP images with RGB/BGR/GRB mapping onto selected fixtures, including a preview of the resulting colours (LED Color Preview). The scene can also be controlled manually, for example with configurable DJ buttons or a wireless controller.

Can the software be controlled from an external application or sensor?

Yes. The software DMX Music Visualization can communicate with an external application via Windows messages, load scenes from an HTTP or FTP source and accept control from an external sensor. A technical guide is published on the page Controlling DMX Music Visualization with external data in the support section of soh.cz, and setup can also be consulted by phone at +420 272 272 500.
